Rhodes takes home OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Fresh off her first collegiate goal in Sunday's OVC-opening win at Eastern Illinois, sophomore Taylor Rhodes was recognized as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week following a vote from the league's sports information personnel Tuesday morning.

Rhodes secured her first career weekly accolade, and TTU's first such honor this season, after scoring the game-winning goal in Sunday's narrow nod in Charleston. Scoreless late into the second half, the 5-foot-6 forward split the pipes in the 77th minute to push the purple and gold to a 1-0 start in league action.

Overall, Rhodes finished second to Chloe Smith in Sunday's affair in shots with four and shots on-goal with two. In Tech's other weekly tangle, a 1-0 loss to Samford on Thursday, Rhodes appeared in 64 of a possible 90 minutes.

Rhodes, who picked up her first assist of the season in Tech's 3-1 victory at MTSU on Sept. 8, is currently tied for third on the team with three points. The Piperton, Tenn. product's 11 shots are also good enough for third on the squad, while her five shots on-frame place Rhodes in second on the club.

Rhodes and the rest of the Golden Eagles will travel to Southern Indiana on Thursday, Sept. 22 for their second OVC clash of the year, before returning home on Sunday, Sept. 25 to take on Lindenwood in the conference home opener. Thursday's meeting with the Screaming Eagles is set for a 5:30 p.m. CT start time and Sunday's battle with the Lions is slated to get going at 1 p.m. Admission to Sunday's match at Tech Soccer Field is free of charge.
