Golden Eagle soccer secures United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Year in and year out the Tennessee Tech soccer team has flexed its academic muscles, collecting a wealth of awards thanks to the club's customary achievement in the classroom. Before play on the pitch officially kicks off in 2022, Tech can once again revel in its scholarly success after the squad secured another impressive accolade.

For the 14th-consecutive year, Golden Eagle soccer was honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic award, an achievement picked up by the purple and gold after locking up a combined team grade point average of 3.60 for the 2021-22 school year. Criteria for the award consists of a team must having a composite team GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official roster forms for the fall season.

The Golden Eagles were one of only three OVC schools to take home this year's accolade, joining Southeast Missouri and Southern Indiana. TTU is the only school in the conference to secure the award for at least six straight years.

Golden Eagle soccer, who was recently named the Tech athletics department Large Academic Team of the Year for the sixth time in the last seven years as part of the Golden Wings Awards, boasted 20 student-athletes on the Spring 2022 Athletic Director's Honor Roll to go along with 22 student-athletes on the Fall 2021 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

With the start of the season right around the corner, Tech has one more exhibition match on the docket, a home affair set for Sunday, Aug. 14 against ETSU at 1 p.m. CT before the purple and gold jump into the regular season with an Aug. 18 home meeting with IUPUI at 7 p.m. CT. Admission to both matches at Tech Soccer Field are free of charge.
