COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team and head coach Steve Springthorpe have added another piece to an already promising puzzle of incoming freshmen as the Golden Eagles announce the signing of Marta Moreno.

Moreno, a center-mid out of Madrid, Spain, will be the latest to throw on purple and gold after Tech welcomed eight incoming freshmen into the mix on National Letter of Intent Signing Day back in early February.

"We are excited to be adding Marta to the roster this fall," TTU head coach Steve Springthorpe said. "She comes over to us with a high level of club experience while playing in Spain, and as we watched her it was evident that she plays a style of soccer that matches how we like to play here at TTU. Marta is a technical player with a high level of understanding of the game."

Moreno joins the Golden Eagle ranks with a knack for finding the back of the net during an impressive high school career at IES Ortega y Gasset in her native Spain. As the club's leading scorer, Moreno collected 27 goals in two seasons of high school action. The incoming TTU freshman also suited up within the elite-level club ranks as a member of Athletico de Madrid's academy team for nine seasons, highlighted by six campaigns within the Champions League academy ranks. During her nine years with Athletico de Madrid's academy team, Moreno led the club in goals in three separate seasons.

"We believe that Marta will come in here and be an impact player right away," Springthorpe said. "I can see her playing as a wide attacking player or could even play as an attacking-mid. We are thankful that she has chosen to attend Tennessee Tech and continue her playing career with our team."

The Golden Eagles are coming off a historical 2017 campaign that featured a program record for fewest losses in a season with only five defeats all year. Tech's eight goals allowed, only five of which came in regulation, surpassed the 2016 school record of 13 goals surrendered. TTU finished in second place in the regular season and advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season.
