COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team continues to make an impact within the community, adding to an already lengthy list of community service endeavors. On Friday, the Golden Eagles woke up bright and early to participate in National Walk to School Day on the campus of nearby Northeast Elementary School.

The event saw Tech's entire team lead the elementary school kids in a walk to promote both physical fitness for younger ages and also pedestrian safety.

"Since we are athletes and coaches, we are out in the forefront of promoting physical fitness, so if we can get kids interested in something like this then it's definitely worthwhile for us," head coach Daniel Brizard said on what sparked his team's interest in helping lead the event. "Sometimes collegiate athletes are just known for playing their sport and going to school, but we want to be known for so much more and to make a positive impact within the community."

The Golden Eagles already have a strong relationship with Northeast Elementary, with each and every member of the team coming in for at least an hour every week to spend time with the students and help out the teachers.

"It's been really fun, we've been helping out for the last year and a half and it's been great getting to know the kids and then seeing them come out to your games," senior forward Ellie Iaciofano said about her experience with Northeast Elementary School. "It's cool to know you are making a difference in their day-to-day school lives."
