Golden Eagles upended 1-0 in crucial late-season battle with Morehead State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Despite chilly temperatures, fans flocked in full force to Tech Soccer Field to witness the Tennessee Tech soccer team for one of the last times in the 2013 campaign. In the Golden Eagles' second to last home match of the year, TTU (3-13-1, 1-6-1) dropped a close one, 1-0 to Morehead State.

The one-score defeat now makes it 11 of Tech's 17 affairs which have either been decided by only one goal or have ended in a tie.

The Golden Eagles were forced to spend much of the day's tilt on the defensive side of things, thanks to a Morehead (7-9-1, 6-2-0) attack that outshot TTU, 24-5. Of the MSU Eagles' 24 rips, no player had more than junior Jade Flory's four.

The lone goal came in the 21st minute as freshman Angela Black capitalized on one of Morehead's eight corners. The 5-6 forward from St. Louis put home the difference-maker after the corner try trickled right to her for Black's fourth goal of the season.

Down 1-0 in the second half, Tech mustered just one shot, a 61st minute strike by freshman Abi Gearing that sailed high.

Golden Eagle sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Brown added to her OVC save lead with six more stops, while Morehead State red-shirt sophomore Elizabeth Floyd made two saves for her second consecutive shutout, and third of the year.

The Eagles have now won four in a row and five of the last six.

Tech will now shift its attention to Sunday's home finale against Eastern Kentucky. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. CDT, with a special Senior Day ceremony scheduled prior to the start of the match as seniors Shannon Rountree, Jessica Wilson, Taylor Hicks, Leigh Heffner, and Ellie Iaciofano will be honored before the tilt.

The match will also be live streamed on the OVC Digital Network. CLICK HERE TO WATCH.
