Golden Eagles shine under the lights at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team started its Kentucky road-trip on a high note Friday evening, grabbing a 1-0 victory over the Eagles of Morehead State under the lights of Jacobs Field. The Golden Eagles held strong under a late barrage of goals to nab their second OVC victory of the year.

"It's always nice to start the weekend with a win," said head coach Daniel Brizard. "We had to battle from the opening minute. Morehead was very physical and very direct in their playing style. It was a defensive battle and I'm very proud of the team for making the adjustments to the turf and lights that we normally don't play with."

The Golden Eagles got things started on the night, grabbing a goal in the 29th minute off a loose ball. Freshman Taylor Sutton scored her first career goal as a Golden Eagle and senior Kris Cambron was credited with the assist. The goal came on the only shot on goal of the night by the Golden Eagles as the match was more of a defensive battle.

The Tech defense allowed just five shots on goal in the match, enabling freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown to keep the scorecard clean for the Golden Eagles. She grabbed five more saves to add to her impressive total. Brown now has 81 saves on the season, ranking her among the top goalkeepers in the Ohio Valley Conference.

"Jordan had a fantastic game," said Brizard. "She made some specatacular saves there at the end and really came through for us in the clutch. I'm really proud of our team as a whole. They hung in their at the end and took a positive step forward with the end. We still have some things to work on, but overall we're happy to get a win and will look to build on it at Eastern Kentucky."

The Golden Eagles will play try to sweep the weekend's matches on Sunday as they make their way to the campus of the EKU Colonels for a 12 p.m. CT match. EKU is coming off a victory over fellow OVC foe Jacksonville State.
