Belmont completes comeback over Golden Eagles in overtime


COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech soccer team took on the newest addition to the Ohio Valley Conference Sunday afternoon, falling to the Belmont Bruins 2-1 in overtime. The Golden Eagles kept the Bruins at bay for over 74 minutes before Belmont finally broke through and scored two unanswered goals to pull off the come-from-behind win.

Tech got things started between the regional rivals, scoring in teh 21st minute. Junior midfielder and Cookeville native Jessica Wilson scored her first career goal off a Kris Cambron assist, knocking the ball in the lower right corner of the net to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advatage.

For exactly 54 minutes, the Golden Eagles held the Bruins off the scoreboard. Laura Harris, who netted to goals in the match, scored a header off the crossbar to tie up the match in the 75th minute. She would later head in another goal in the 94th minute to give the Bruins their third OVC victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Brown recorded seven saves in the match, bringing her season total to 97. She now sits second in the OVC for saves and first for saves per game with 6.91. She has played every minute this season for the Golden Eagles, including all 93 in Sunday's match.

Senior midfielder Kris Cambron moved up to sixth on the Tennessee Tech all-time list for career assists with 10. She leads the Golden Eagles with three assists this season.

Junior defender Katie Phillips once again played every minute for Tech. She has now played every minute this season for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road this weekend, with matches against Austin Peay and Murray State. Tech will travel to Clarksville, Tenn. and face the Governors on Friday, Oct. 19 in a night match scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Golden Eagles will then travel to Murray, Ky. to take on the Racers in a 1 p.m. match on Sunday Oct. 21.
