Three from women's soccer named to the All-Tournament team at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles finished second in this weekend's Samford Tournament, capping off play against the hosting Samford Bulldogs Sunday afternoon. TTU took the 2-0 loss, but earned three spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Samford jumped ahead quickly, netting their first goal on Becca Toler in the 13th minute off of a direct kick from 35 yards out. Leah Leppert earned her first goal on the season as she found the upper left hand corner with the shot.

Toler would face 17 more shots from a powerful Bulldog offense, racking up five saves on the day and only allowing one more goal. The 2-0 goal came in the 51st minute of play when Paige Lanter's corner kick connected with Sabbath McKiernan-Allen, who headed the ball over Toler.

Samford keeper Alyssa Whitehead was credited with the win, notching four saves on the day.

En route to spots on the All-Tournament team, sophomores Kris Cambon and Kerri Reid each contributed two shots on the day, while Brooke Mayo and Jacquie Watkins each added one. Cambron, who started the scoring for the Golden Eagles in their win over Georgia Southern yesterday, and Reid each tallied four shots total on the weekend.

Leigh Heffner was honored on the All-Tournament team for her contributions defensively for Tech.

With a record of 2-5, the Golden Eagles will return to Cookeville for Wednesday evening's matchup against Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m.
