COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Seniors Brooke Mayo and Jen Hoffman and
junior teammate Lindsey Reed have been voted as captains for the
Tennessee Tech University women’s soccer squad for the 2010
season. The three players were selected to be the team’s
acting leaders by both their teammates and coaches.
This season will mark Mayo’s and Reed's second consecutive
as a team captain, while Hoffman will be filling the role for the
first time.
As captains, the three will represent Tech soccer on and off the
field, setting a standard for athleticism and drive on the field,
and serving off the field as liaisons between the team and various
programs at Tech and within the Cookeville community.
The three women named as captains were chosen with the intent of
representing the various dynamics of the team. Mayo, a previous
captain, will provide leadership on the field, but also namely as a
student and active member of the community.
“We look for Brooke to be a leader on and off the
field,” says first-year head coach Daniel Brizard. “We
feel that her dedication on the field, in the classroom and in the
community will help guide our team to an OVC championship on the
field and help us become a better team off the field.”
Reed’s work ethic and dedication pins her as a role model
for the team as they progress through the season.
“Lindsey’s dedication to becoming a better player and
person will provide a benchmark that our team will strive to work
towards,” continued Brizard. “We look forward to
Lindsey providing leadership at center back on the field through
her hard work, and to her setting a high standard in the
classroom.”
As the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, Hoffman is
expected “to be a major contributor to our on-field
success,” said Brizard. “She has the ability to play
any attacking position with confidence and will provide leadership
through her play on the field and help her teammates become better
people off of it.”
The Golden Eagles will open up their regular season of play Friday
with a game on the road against Auburn at 7 p.m.
