NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman Andrea Meloff scored two goals for
the second time this season, and sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn
Thacker had seven stops Tuesday night as the Tennessee Tech soccer
team beat Lipscomb 2-1 in a non-conference matchup.
“The girls were very resilient tonight,” Tech head
coach Becky Fletcher said. “They worked very hard out there,
and there was a lot of effort.”
Meloff scored her first goal in the first half after chasing down
a ball to get a shot from near the corner. After Lipscomb’s
Ally Marler tied the game early in the second half Meloff scored
her second goal on a breakaway in front of the net, taking it away
from Lipscomb goalkeeper Erin Zerio after Zerio got a piece of it
but couldn’t pull it in.
“Andrea worked for everything she got tonight,”
Fletcher said. “They only gave her an inch, and that’s
all she needed, she did the rest on her own.”
Meloff now leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals. Her first
goal was assisted by freshman Jacquie Watkins, her second assist of
the season.
The match was the final regular season match of the season for Tech. The Golden Eagles will head to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament next week, which will be hosted by OVC regular season champion Morehead State.
Tech finished the season with a 5-11-3 record, and finished 3-2-2 in the OVC. The Golden Eagles will be the No. 4 seed in the OVC tournament.
"We wanted a positive result to springboard us into the tournament," Fletcher said. "Lipscomb is a solid opponent, and we felt like we saw some very good things tonight."
