Golden Eagles can't overcome early SEMO goal, fall 1-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri's Bobbi Jo Schlick put the Redhawks on the board in the third minute of the game, and that's the way it would end as the Tennessee Tech soccer team fell to SEMO 1-0 in Ohio Valley Conference action on Sunday.

Tech goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker had four saves in the contests, but the Golden Eagle offense couldn't find the back of the net, as Tech finished with just one shot on goal.

SEMO finished with 12 total shots, while Tech had eight. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-10-3 overall on the season, and 3-2-2 in OVC play. The Redhawks improve to 7-5-1, and 2-1-1 in the OVC.

Jen Hoffman had two shots for Tech, and Leigh Heffner, Jacquie Watkins, Kris Cambron, Kerri Reid, Andrea Meloff and Brittany Rogers each had one. SEMO got three shots from Schlick, Ashley Runion and Hayley Abbott. Redhawk goalkeeper had one save in the shutout.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up OVC play on Oct. 23 when they travel to Jacksonville State. Tech will visit Lipscomb on Oct. 27 for a non-conference match up to wrap up the regular season. The OVC tournament will be Nov. 5-8, hosted by the league's regular season champion.
