Golden Eagles play to 2-2 tie at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Jen Hoffman and Kris Cambron each scored a goal, and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker made four of her nine saves in the second overtime period as the Tennessee Tech soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie with Ohio Valley Conference opponent Eastern Illinois Friday.

Hoffman put Tech on the scoreboard just before halftime, scoring her fifth goal of the season in the 44th minute. EIU's Sara Rusk tied the game in the 47th minute before Cambron put Tech up 2-1 in the 56th minute. EIU tied the game on a long free kick into congestion in front of the net in the 66th minute, which would force the 2-2 tie.

Both teams had five shots in the second overtime frame, and EIU finished with a total of 23 shots, while Tech posted 17.

"We had our chances in overtime, and they had chances too," Tennessee Tech head coach Becky Fletcher said.

Hoffman and freshman Kerri Reid each had four shots for Tech, while Cambron finished with three. Freshman Jacquie Watkins and junior Kathryn Lally each had an assist for the Golden Eagles.

Muddy field conditions in Charleston changed the style of play for both teams, as ball control became very difficult.

Tech moves to 4-9-3 on the season, and 3-1-2 on OVC play. The Golden Eagles remain unbeaten in overtime contests in 2009. Tech will continue its road trip with a match at Southeast Missouri on Oct. 18. The Golden Eagles wrap up OVC play on Oct. 23 at Jacksonville State, and will visit Lipscomb in non-conference action on Oct. 27.

The OVC tournament will be Nov. 5-8. The top six teams will advance to the tournament, which will be hosted by the regular season champion. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will earn a first-round bye.
