COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Five games into its eight-game Ohio Valley
Conference schedule, the Tennessee Tech soccer team finds itself
atop the OVC standings. But holding that place will be no easy
task, as Tech's final three conference matches of the season will
all be on the road.
"It's nice to see your name there, but we still have three huge
matches," Tech head coach Becky Fletcher said. "Honestly, I don't
really care where we are during the season, our goal is to see how
high we can finish at the end of the season. We just need to focus
on what we can control, which is going out and playing a solid
90-minutes."
Tech holds a 4-9-2 overall record, and stands at 3-1-1 in OVC
play.
The Golden Eagles begin their final three-game stretch with a trip
to Eastern Illinois on Oct. 16, followed by a road match at
Southeast Missouri on Oct. 18. Tech's match at Southeast Missouri
can be seen live via WebCast through KFVS12.com free of charge and
with no subscription required.
"EIU had a very good record in the non-conference, and they've
played everybody tough in the conference," Fletcher said. "SEMO has
historically been one of the leaders in the conference. They're
always a very organized and very solid soccer team, so we're
definitely going to be challenged this weekend."
The Golden Eagles will wrap up the conference season on Oct. 23
with a match at Jacksonville State, before visiting Lipscomb in a
non-conference match to end the regular season on Oct. 27.
The OVC tournament will be Nov. 3-8 at the site of the
regular-season champion. The leagues top six teams advance to the
tournament, with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds getting first-round
byes.
The Golden Eagles lead the standings with 10 total points, with UT
Martin and Murray State one point behind at nine. Both of those
squads have played one less game than Tech.
"It definitely gives an added excitement to the girls," Fletcher
said. "It gives them the feeling that there is something on the
line, and that's exciting, but they also know how quickly that can
be taken away."
