Golden Eagles show improvement on opening day of Terrier Intercollegiate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Day one of the Terrier Intercollegiate is in the books for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, as the Golden Eagles put a cap on the first two rounds of action at the Carolina Country Club Monday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles posted rounds of 319 and 309 for a 628 overall to rank 12th out of 17 teams in competition. South Dakota led the way with a 305-297=602, besting the field by four shots. North Alabama's Jacqueline Klemm ranked first on the individual leaderboard of 90 participants, posting a 75-68=143.

Senior Gittle Sciolis paced the purple and gold effort, tying for 22nd overall. She collected five birdies for a 78 in round one and followed it with three more birdies for a 75 in the second round for a 153.

Fellow senior Elisabeth Toennessen delivered 13 pars and a birdie for a first-round 75 on the day, tying for 25th overall. She finished with a 154 after carding a 79 with one birdie in the second round.

One shot back with a 155 was junior Ainsley Simms, tying for 31st overall. After recording a birdie on her way to an 81 in the first round, Simms bounced back in the second with a 74 on a whopping 16 pars.

Senior Makenzie Morton tied for 71st with an 85-81=166, posting a birdie in the second round of the day. Sophomore Reagan Stuke finished 75th after totaling four birdies as part of an 86-82=168. 

Tech will kick off Tuesday's third round with split tee times beginning at 7:15 a.m. CT.
