Golden Eagles finish two rounds of action at Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team completed the opening two rounds of the Pirate Collegiate Classic Monday, racking up a pair of trips around Greenville Country Club.

The purple and gold ranked ninth out of 12 teams following the first day of action, posting rounds of 312 and 313 for a 625 overall score. High Point and host East Carolina tied for first heading into the final round, each tallying marks of 583. Seton Hall's Sarah Fouratt led all individuals with a 137.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were a pair of Tech veterans, Ainsley Simms and Elisabeth Toennessen with matching rounds of 76 and 77 for 153. The junior Simms carded a birdie in each round while the senior Toennessen produced one in the first and 14 pars in the second.

Tying for 45th among the 63 participants was Makenzie Morton with a total of 159. The senior totaled three birdies on the day as part of rounds of 79 and 80. Finishing the opening day of play with a 159 was freshman Kaitlyn Rand, turning in an 83 and a 79 backed by a birdie.

Rounding out the lineup for the Golden Eagles was Gittle Sciolis, finishing 53rd overall with scores of 81 and 83 for a 164 overall.

The third and final round of action will begin with two groups of tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
