Women's purple team ties for sixth, gold team finishes 12th at BNI

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team put a cap on its annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, completing the second and final round of its home tournament at Sevierville Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

Fielding two squads in the 13-team field, the Golden Eagles saw their purple team climb its way up the leaderboard on the final day of play, moving from ninth to a tie for sixth after dropping the second-lowest score of the day, a 302. It provided the team a 615 for the week to match the output of both Bellarmine and Tusculum.

The Tech gold team wrapped up competition with its second straight 327, totaling 654 through the two rounds. Findlay captured the tournament crown after leading all teams with a 299 on the day and 593 for the event. The Oilers' Gabby Woods claimed individual medalist honors, taking the top spot after edging North Alabama's Jahnavi Prakhya in a scorecard playoff. Both players fired a 146 for the event.

Turning in the top performance for the purple team and the Golden Eagles as a whole was Heidi Lawson, making 13 pars and a birdie to turn in a 3-over 74. The senior tied for 10th in the field of 78 golfers with a 150 overall. Next up for the squad was fellow senior Hannah Bratton, tying for 21st behind a 74 of her own and a pair of birdies. She finished with a 154.

Right behind her in the standings was Ainsley Simms, tying for 24th with a 155. The sophomore collected two birdies of her own while tallying a 76 on the day. One shot behind her, junior Elisabeth Toennessen tied for 30th with a 156, producing a pair of birdies as part of a 78.

Rounding out the purple team lineup, freshman Reagan Stuke concluded the week with an 87.

Tying for 46th to lead the gold team were juniors Gittle Sciolis and Katrine Toennessen, each producing a 161 over the two rounds. Sciolis carded a 79 with 10 pars while Toennessen put together an 85. With a 166, Isabel York tied for 58th to rank next on the gold squad. The senior managed a birdie to go along with eight pars for n 82.

Just one stroke back of York, junior Makenzie Morton parred 10 holes on the day to tally an 82 of her own. Tying for 61st, she finished with a 167. Completing her first collegiate event, freshman Hailey Stegemann shaved four strokes off her first outing, delivering an 84 for a 172 to tie for 67th.

The Golden Eagles return to action next week at the Nevel Meade Collegiate in Prospect, Ky. Hosted by Cleveland State, the tournament will run from Monday, Mar. 21 through Tuesday, Mar. 22 at the Nevel Meade Golf Club.
