Tech women's golf team ninth and eleventh after day one of BNI

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – After seeing the first day of the ninth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate cancelled due to snow, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up the first round of action Monday evening, fielding a pair of teams in the program's home event at Sevierville Golf Club.

Competing at the Highlands Course, Tech's purple team finished the day ninth among the 13-team field, putting forth a 313. The Golden Eagle gold team completed the day in 11th after posting a 327. Pacing the field was Findlay with a low score of 294. Carson-Newman's Ellie Haughton led the individual scoreboard after carding an even-par 71.

On Tech's purple team, it was Heidi Lawson posting a low score of 5-over 76 to tie for 16th among the 78 golfers in competition. The senior turned in a pair of birdies on the day. Also delivering a pair of birdies was junior Elisabeth Toennessen as part of a 78. The junior tied for 29th overall.

Sophomore Ainsley Simms was next Golden Eagle on the leaderboard for the purple team, carding one birdie as part of 79 to tie for 36th. One shot back of her teammate, senior Hannah Bratton parred 10 holes on her way to an 80 and tie for 41st.

Rounding out the purple team's efforts was freshman Reagan Stuke. The rookie tied for 48th while securing one birdie as part of an 82.

For the gold team, Katrine Toennessen produced the best showing of the day with a 5-over 76 to tie Lawson for 16th. The junior tallied a trio of birdies during the first round of play. Fellow junior Gittle Sciolis also notched three birdies, tying for 48th with a score of 82.

Turning a birdie as part of a round of 84 was senior Isabel York, who tied for 57th following day one. One stroke behind in a tie for 61st was junior Makenzie Morton. She concluded the day with an 85.

Making her collegiate debut was freshman Hailey Stegemann, who carded an 88 to tie for 69th.

The second and final round of the 2022 Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate will commence at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
