Tech women's golf team seventh after day two of OVC Championships

OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – Day two of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships came to a close Monday afternoon for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team after competing at the Highlands Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove.

The Golden Eagles stayed steady in seventh overall, posting a 313 on the day to total 621 through the first two rounds of action. Leading the tournament by a healthy 14 strokes with 18 holes to play was Jacksonville State, posting a 283 for a collective score of 575. The Gamecocks' Ana Perez Altuna was at the top of the individual leaderboard for the second-straight day, turning in a 3-under 69 for a 140 overall.

For the purple and gold, Arianna Clemmer climbed up to take the top spot for the Golden Eagles, posting a brilliant 4-under on the front nine on the day. The redshirt senior finished with a 76 to move into a tie for 17th among the 40 golfers in the field with a total of 154.

Sophomore Elisabeth Toennessen carded the top round of the day for the Tech squad, slashing six shots from her first-round total to produce a 3-over 75 while powered by five birdies. Her total through two rounds of 156 tied her for 23rd overall with teammate Heidi Lawson, who also totaled 156. Lawson rounded out her second round of action with an 83.

Tying for 28th was senior Hannah Bratton, who rolled off eight consecutive pars to close out the front nine on Monday. She finished with an 80 on the day and a 159 with one round to play. Rookie Ainsley Simms rounded out the Tech lineup, concluding her second round of the weekend with an 82 and 160 overall.

The third and final round of the OVC Championships will again kick off for the Golden Eagles at 8:00 a.m. CT, this time on Tuesday morning.
