Golden Eagles climb a spot following second round of Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team climbed a spot in the rankings at the Kiawah Island Classic Monday, moving to 29th at the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country. 

Competing at Cougar Point Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Golden Eagles followed up their first-round 313 with a 315 for a 628 overall. Dallas Baptist jumped into first place with a 277 on the day, putting the team at 569 overall. Murray State's Raeysha Surendran took the individual lead with a 68 and a 137 total score.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles the second-straight day was Grimstad, Norway native Elisabeth Toennessen. The sophomore lept up the leaderboard more than 30 spots, tying for 46th among the 210 participants in the field with a 151 overall score. Toennessen fired a 2-over 74 in the second round, accounting for 13 pars and a pair of birdies. 

Heidi Lawson followed her teammates on the leaderboard, tying for 89th after carding a 78-77=155. The junior claimed three birdies on the day to lead the purple and gold. Senior Hannah Bratton finished the day with an 80 and an overall total of 159, tying for 134th in the field.

Redshirt senior Arianna Clemmer and sophomore Gittle Sciolis tied each other with the total score of 167 following the second round of action. Sciolis turned in an 84 while Clemmer concluded the day with an 88. 

The third and final round of play for the Golden Eagles at the Kiawah Island Classic will take place on the Oak Point Course, with Tech slated to tee off at 7:40 a.m. CT.
