Tech ranked seventh after first round of Town and Country Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team completed the first half of its final event of the fall Monday afternoon, finishing round one of the Town and Country Invitational at McCabe Golf Course in Nashville.

The Golden Eagles posted a 296 over the first 18 holes, ranking seventh out of eight teams. The purple and gold will head into the final round of action on Tuesday just one shot back of a tie for fifth place with Austin Peay and Belmont and just 10 shots behind second-place Troy. Lipscomb led the day with a 285.

Pacing the purple and gold was freshman Elisabeth Toennessen, who ranked in a tie for ninth among the 49 golfers in competition. The Grimstad, Norway native fired a 2-over 72, backed by a trio of birdies and 11 pars. Her 1-under mark on par-5 holes tied for the tournament lead while her three birdies ranked second.

Sophomore Heidi Lawson finished just a shot behind her teammate, posting a 3-over 73. She tied for 14 after turning in a whopping 15 pars on the day, good enough to tie her for the lead in the field. Junior Hannah Bratton carded a 75 with a couple of birdies, tying for 26th overall.

Next among the Golden Eagles on the leaderboard were freshmen Gittle Sciolis and Katrine Toennessen, both of whom tied for 29th. Sciolis captured a 76 behind 13 pars while Toennessen used 12 pars and a birdie to reach her 76.

Competing as an individual for the purple and gold was senior Arianna Clemmer. The Tech veteran concluded her day with a 79 and nine pars.

Cumberland University's Tilde Rolandson and Belmont's Kately Dunstan tied for the individual lead on the day, turning in 1-under 69s.

The Golden Eagles will kick off the second and final round of the Town and Country Invitational Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 9:20 a.m. CT.
