Tech women eighth at halfway point of Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio – Round one of the Dayton Flyer Invitational came to a close Monday afternoon, as the Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up the first 18 holes of action at the NCR Country Club in eighth place among the 14 teams in competition.

The Golden Eagles posted a 319 on Monday, ranking just one shot back of Northern Kentucky for seventh place. It was Butler leading the way after one round of play, firing a 300 to lead Illinois State by a single stroke.

For the purple and gold, it was freshman Katrine Toennessen turning in the low round of the day. The Grimstad, Norway native carded a 76 to finish in a tie for 13th out of 84 golfers. Next among the Tech finishers was sophomore Heidi Lawson, who tied for 30th. She shot a 79 in her first turn around the course in Kettering, Ohio.

Completing her first collegiate round on Monday was rookie Makenzie Morton, who carded an 82. The Sparta native tied for 47th place with teammate and fellow freshman Gittle Sciolis, who also turned in an 82.

Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup was Hannah Bratton. The junior finished her first day of play with a 90. Dayton's Ellie Cronin led all golfers on the day, firing an even-par 70.

The second and final round of the tournament is slated for a 9:30 a.m. CT start Tuesday morning.
