Golden Eagles finish eighth at Chris Banister Golf Classic

GADSDEN, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team completed the third and final round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic Tuesday afternoon, finishing the 54-hole event at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Gadsden, Ala. in eighth place among 11 teams.

The Golden Eagles rounded out action with a third-round tally of 314 to finish with an overall score of 954. Tech edged out North Alabama by a single shot but just missed a tie for seventh with Alabama State, also by one stroke. Troy claimed the tournament title, concluding play with a 901 overall.

For the purple and gold, junior Hannah Bratton led the way both in the third round and overall, finishing in a tie for 22nd among the 62 participants. Her third-round, 3-over 75 provided her with a 234 for the event. For the week, she ranked in the top-15 of the event in total pars, tallying a team-high 31.

Heidi Lawson was the next Golden Eagle on the leaderboard, tying for 26th after sporting rounds of 80, 74 and 82. The sophomore's 236 was backed by 10 birdies throughout the tournament, enough to rank her in a tie for second among the entire field.

Improving on her second-round score of 80 in the third round was freshman Elisabeth Toennessen. The youngster completed her first event in the Golden Eagle lineup with an 84-80-78=242 and in a tie for 38th overall. Fellow rookie Gittle Sciolis tied for 45th after carding rounds of 80, 85 and 80 to produce a 245.

Closing out the Tech quintet in action, Katrine Toennessen placed 49th after turning in a 249 for the week. The freshman improved each round of the event, shooting 85, 83 and 81.

Murray State's Raeysha Surendran took home individual medalist honors by four shots, shooting a 213 backed by her incredible second-round 66.

Tech will once again be quick to return to the links, heading north for the Dayton Flyer Invitational from Monday, Oct. 14 through Tuesday, Oct. 15. The 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Dayton, will take place at the North Course of the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
