Tech women's golf team tied for seventh after day one of Chris Banister Golf Classic

GADSDEN, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team worked through the first two rounds of the Chris Banister Golf Classic Monday, completing the first day of action at Silver Lakes Golf Course in a tie for seventh out of 11 teams.

The Golden Eagles showed resilience after a tough first round of 328, slashing their scores for a 312 in round two. The purple and gold's 638 ranked 10 shots behind sixth-place North Alabama. Troy ranked at the top of the leaderboard with a 583.

Pacing Tech on day one of play was Heidi Lawson, who turned in one of the biggest turnarounds from the first round to the second. The sophomore carded an 80 over the first 18 holes, but rallied to record a 2-over 74 in her second go around the course. Lawson's 154 tied her for 16th overall among the field of 62.

Next among the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard was Hannah Bratton, who tied for 31st with a score of 159. The junior also enjoyed a resurgent second round, shaving five strokes off her initial 82 to turn in a 77 for her second score. Not far behind was freshman Elisabeth Toennessen and her rounds of 84 and 78. Tying for 36th, the Grimstad, Norway native captured a 162.

Rookie Gittle Sciolis tied for 46th on Monday, carding scores of 80 and 85. She finished the day with a 165 overall. Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup was Katrine Toennessen and her score of 168. The freshman tied for 50th after posting an 85 and an 83.

Murray State's Raeysha Surendran led all individuals through the first two rounds on Monday, exploding for a 4-under 140.

The third and final round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic is slated for Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
