CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – For the second time in as many events, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team earned a top-five finish, placing fourth at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon.
Competing at Clarksville Country Club, the Golden Eagles posted a third-round score of 311 to maintain its position on the leaderboard among the nine teams in the field. Tech finished a whopping 24 shots better than fifth-place Valparaiso and 10 shots behind third-place Western Carolina.
It was Heidi Lawson leading the effort for the purple and gold, carding a 76 over the final 18 holes of action. The sophomore earned her second All-Tournament honors in as many tries this season, tying for fourth place among the field of 50 golfers after finishing with a 224 overall.
Finishing second among the Golden Eagles and 12th overall was junior Hannah Bratton. Her third-round 77, paired with a 75 and 79 on the first day of play, gave her a 231 for her work over the event. Just two shots back of Bratton, freshman Katrine Toennessen entered the clubhouse with a 233 after turning in an 80 for her final round. She tied for 14th overall while both Bratton and Toennesseen tallied three birdies each on Tuesday.
Winding down her first collegiate event, rookie Gittle Sciolis tied for 20th after carding rounds of 81, 77 and 78. The freshman birdied three holes over the final 18 to complete the event with a 236. Junior Kate Mashburn rounded out the Tech lineup with an 81 on the day and a 255 for the tournament.
Competing as an individual in her first-ever tournament, freshman Elisabeth Toennessen capped a wonderful debut with her best round of the event. The Grimstad, Norway native, fired a 77 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 20th overall. She totaled two birdies on the day while securing a 236 total.
IUPUI took home the tournament title after combining to shoot 900 for three rounds. The Jaguars' Marion Debove earned individual medalist honors behind rounds of 73, 72 and 71 and a total score of 216.
The Golden Eagles return to action next week at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in Gadsden, Ala. Starting on Monday, Oct. 7, the event will take place at Silver Lakes Golf Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
