Tech women's golf remains sixth after second round of OVC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team kept its spot on the leaderboard at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Tuesday, making a slight improvement in scoring from day one of competition at the Schoolmaster Course at the Shoals.

The Golden Eagles trimmed three strokes from their first-round total from Monday, finishing day two with a 306 to sit in sixth place among the nine team competing. Tech's 615 for two rounds ranks just four shots behind fifth-place Austin Peay.

Pacing the purple and gold through 36 holes was junior Shelby Johnson, who skimmed one shot from her first round performance for a 3-over 75. The veteran moved up the rankings to sit in a tie for 13th with a 151 after putting together a round with 15 pars.  

Turning in the best day on the links for the Golden Eagles was Lindsay Miller. The senior carded a 2-over 74, making two birdies and 12 pars on her way to a 153 for the two days. She ranked tied for 20th among the 45 participants.

Just one shot back of Miller, freshman Heidi Lawson shaved a couple of shots from her first round total to tie for 22nd overall. The rookie fired a 76 on the day with three birdies, bringing her two-day total to 154.

Next among the Golden Eagles was junior Arianna Clemmer. She tied for 26th after posting an 81 to make her total score a 157. Rounding out the Tech lineup, sophomore Kate Mashburn turned in an 83 for a 170 to rank 36th.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up the OVC Championships on Wednesday, kicking off round three with tee times beginning at 8:50 a.m. CT.
