MURRAY, Ky. – One swing was the highlight of the day for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, as sophomore Kate Mashburn turned in a hole-in-one during the first round of the Jan Weaver Invitational in Murray, Ky.

The Calhoun, Ga. native aced the par-3, 18th hole of Miller Memorial Golf Course, sinking her drive from 150 yards out. The ball bounced once on the green and dropped in for the first hole-in-one in competition by a Golden Eagle golfer in the Polk Brown era.

Competing as an individual, Mashburn wrapped up the first day of action tied for 46th among the 98 golfers in competition. She turned in a 77 for round one before closing out the day with a 79 and total score of 156.

As a team, the Golden Eagles wrapped up the first 36 holes of the familiar event in fifth place among the 15 teams competing. Tech notched a 298 in round one before providing a 308 in the second for a 606 overall.

Leading the purple and gold on the day was junior Shelby Johnson. The Tech veteran tied for ninth with a 1-under 71 and a 76. Her total of 147 was tied for ninth place. Fellow junior Arianna Clemmer was next on the leaderboard, tying for 38th with a 155 (77-78).

Exploding for her best round as a Golden Eagle was freshman Heidi Lawson. The rookie led the field following the first 18 holes, carding a 4-under 68. She fell back into the pack following the second round, however, struggling to find the same magic twice. Lawson finished the day tied for 46th with a 156.

Isabel York was a just a stroke back of her teammate, turning in a 157 after rounds of 82 and a much-improved 75. She tied for 52nd. Rounding out the Tech lineup was sophomore Hannah Bratton, who posted a 163 (84-79).

The third and final round of play is set to begin Saturday morning with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.
