SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After battling the weather and potential tornadoes on Monday, the setting at the Country Club of Spartanburg could not have been better for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team on Tuesday, as the team closed out the second and final round of the Terrier Intercollegiate.
The Golden Eagles finished sixth among the field of 11, shaving eight strokes off their first-round 314 for a 306 in round two and an overall score of 620. High Point claimed the team title, firing a 292-300=592 behind the strength of individual medalist Cayla Smith and her 69-73=142.
Senior Allyson Dunn came out firing in round two, blasting a 1-under 71 to finish at 151 for the event and snag a top-10 finish by tying for seventh among the field of 60. She paced the Golden Eagles for the week.
Sophomore Shelby Johnson was next among the Tech participants, finishing 20th behind a total tally of 155. True freshman Kate Mashburn tied for 23rd in her third career event, carding a 79-78=157.
Tying for 35th was junior Hollee Sadler, who trimmed three strokes off a first-round total of 82 for a second-round 79 and final score of 161. Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup was sophomore Arianna Clemmer.
The youngster also made improvements on Tuesday, cutting eight strokes from an 86 in the first round for a second-round 78 and 164 overall final. She tied for 39th.
