LEDBETTER, Ky. - Consistent play proved to be key for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team Monday as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a third place start through the first two rounds at the Jan Weaver-Murray State Invitational.

Led by two former All-Ohio Valley Conference selections, the Tech squad carded team scores of 306 and 303 during the seasons opening event, sitting just one stroke out of second place Western Kentucky.

"The girls just flat-out performed today," head coach Polk Brown said. "I was excited to see how quickly we were able to put up some low scores and I was even more excited to see us improve in the second round. That's going to be a key for us this year and I can't wait to see how the team finishes tomorrow."

A member of last year's OVC All-Newcomer and OVC All-Tournament teams, Whitney Robertson kicked off her sophomore campaign right where she left off, turning in scores of 74 and 72 to sit in a tie for third place in the 11-team event. The 72 tied the youngster's career-low round and gave here a 146 for the day.

Named to the OVC All-Tournament team in 2013, Maddi Everts looked to back to full form after dealing with nagging injuries a season ago. The junior tallied a 76-74=150 day to jump into a tie for seventh place in the event.

Three Golden Eagles tied for 33rd overall through the event's first two rounds. Junior Megan Williamson improved after a first-round 80, collecting a second-round 78 to finish with a score of 158. Sophomore Lydia Triplett played consistently from start to finish, tallying two rounds of 79.

Making her debut in purple and gold, Cookeville native Anna Cunningham fired a first-round 77 before closing out the night with an 81 over the final 18 holes.

The Golden Eagles will conclude the tournament on Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.
