Tech finishes third at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Improving one shot allowed the Tennessee Tech women's golf team to advance one position in the team standings to claim third place Tuesday in the 36-hole Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, held on the Highlands Course of Sevierville Golf Course.

Ohio Valley Conference schools grabbed the top four spots in the team standings, with Belmont capturing the crown with a 295-307—602 total and an 18-stroke margin. Eastern Kentucky (309-311) was second at 620, while the Golden Eagles (315-314) placed third with a two-day 629 total.

Tech's steady play jumped the Golden Eagles ahead of Jacksonville State (312-320), which placed in a tie for fourth place with Indiana State (316-316) in fourth place.

Murray State (318-316) headed up the second five with a 634, followed by Evansville (326-315) at 641, Dayton (335-334) with 669, Chicago State (337-333) with 670 and Eastern Illinois (357-341) at 698.

Sophomore Whitney Robertson posted the low score of the tournament for the Golden Eagles, shooting rounds of 75 and 78 for a 153 total to place her in a tie for seventh. She edged junior Megan Williamson (74-80) with a 154, placing her in a tie for ninth.

Just three shots back, junior Maddi Everts (82-75) had the second-best improvement on the squad, slicing seven shots off her first day score to finish at 157 and a tie for 14th place. Lydia Triplett (84-82) finished 40th with a 166 total, while freshman Anna Cunningham (90-81) parlayed a nine-shot improvement, the best vault on the team, for a 171 total and a tie for 42nd place.

In addition to the five team scores, Tech also had one player competing among the 12 individuals. Haley Davidson shot 89-90—179 to tie for 56th place.

Kayla Katterhenry (72-73) of Evansville and Katie Story (73-72) of Belmont tied for the individual lead through 36 holes with scored of 145, forcing a sudden death playoff for individual medalist honors. The tie-breaker went to Katterhenry on the fifth hole.

Joining that pair on the all-tournament team were Becky Sharp of Eastern Kentucky with a 149 for third place, and Belmont's Megan Heath at 151 for fourth.

The Tech women will see several of the same teams in a couple weeks when they compete in the Lady Colonel Classic, April 3-4, hosted in Richmond, Ky., by Eastern Kentucky University.
