SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Megan Williamson is in fourth place individually and Whitney Robertson is tied for fifth, as the two juniors helped Tennessee Tech close the first day of play Monday in fourth place among the 10 teams in the women's division of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
The teams will play the final 18 holes Tuesday on the 5,803-yard, par 71 Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Course.
Belmont's Sydney Hudson was the lone player in the 62-player field to shoot par, carding a 71 to hold the first round lead and bump the Bruins to the top on the team leaderboard. Belmont's 295 is good for a 14-shot lead over Eastern Kentucky (309), while Jacksonville State (312) is third.
The Golden Eagles finished Monday's play at 315 for fourth place, one shot ahead of Indiana State (316) to round out the top five. Murray State (318) is in sixth place, followed by Evansville (326), Dayton (335), Chicago State (337) and Eastern Illinois (357).
Belmont placed four players among the top 11 on the individual scoreboard, led by Hudson's 71. Katie Story is in third place at 73, Megan Heath tied for fifth at 75, and Mallory Sullivan tied for ninth at 76.
The Golden Eagles and Eastern Kentucky each had two players near the lead. Williamson (in photo above) shot a team-best 74 to pace Tech and is in fourth place, while Robertson's 75 has her tied for fifth. For EKU, Becky Sharpe is tied for fifth at 75 and Emilie Simmons is tied for ninth at 76.
Evansville, Indiana State and Murray State each placed one player among the top 11. For Evansville, Kayla Katterhenry is in second place at 72. Indiana State was led by Amanda Smith's 75 to tie for fifth, while Gina Nuzzo paced Murray State with a 76 to tie for ninth.
For the Golden Eagles, Maddi Everts is tied for 30th place after carding an 82 Monday. Also in the lineup for coach Polk Brown's squad, Lydia Triplett shot an 84 and is in 41st place, while Anna Cunningham's 90 has her tied for 51st place.
Tech also has one player competing individually, with Haley Davidson shooting 89 to put her in a tie for 49th place.
