MURRAY, Ky. – A fantastic improvement from round one to round two helped propel the Tennessee Tech women's golf team into fifth place on the first day of the Murray State Invitational Friday, shaving over 15 strokes off its first-round score to jump three places in the standings.

Whitney Robertson's consistent first two rounds were plenty enough to lead the Golden Eagle charge on day one, as the sophomore finished the first day of play in sole possession of second place. The Clarksville, Tenn. native carded rounds of 74 and 74 to total a 148, trailing just Anna Magnusson of Morehead State, by two strokes.

Also making a huge impact on the day was junior Megan Williamson, who, after two rounds, found herself in a tie for fourth place with two other golfers. After recording a first-round score of 76, the Murfreesboro native trimmed two strokes off her game for a second-round 74 to finish her first 36 holes at 150.

Next among Tech's participants was local Cookeville native Anna Cunningham. The redshirt freshman rallied from a tough first-round total of 86 for an impressive 78 over the final 18 holes of the day. She rounded out the first day in Murray with a 164.

Sophomores Haley Davidson and Lydia Triplett rounded out the lineup for the Golden Eagles, shooting 169 and 171, respectively. Davidson showed huge improvement between rounds, firing an 81 in the second round after recording an 88 in the first. Triplett also improved from the first to second rounds, carding an 87 and 84.

The Golden Eagles will look to climb the leaderboard during the final round of the tournament Saturday morning. Play will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
