SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – With almost no rest and time to make corrections after its season-opening tournament, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team got right back into the thick of competition Monday at the Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville.

The Golden Eagles played consistent golf over the opening two rounds of the event, putting together total team scores of 320 and 320 for a total of 640 overall. Tech sits in a tie for 15th with Georgia State and will fight to climb the rankings over the final 18 holes Tuesday.

Leading the Golden Eagle effort on the first day of play was veteran Maddi Everts. The junior finished the first 36 holes in a tie for 34th overall after carding a 76-77=153. Fellow junior Megan Williamson tallied the next best score for the Tech squad, totaling 79-81=160 to wrap up her first day in a tie for 69th.

An All-Tournament selection at the Jan Weaver-MSU Invitational last week, Whitney Robertson turned in scores of 80-83=163 while fellow sophomore Lydia Triplet finished the day at 85-79=164.

"This is the toughest competition we will face this year," head coach Polk Brown said, "but we just need to calm down, relax and play golf. If we can do that, we have a chance to make some big moves tomorrow. I truly believe the girls will respond to the challenge and come out swinging."

The Tech squad will wrap up play at the Cardinal Cup Tuesday morning.
