MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - With 36 holes still left to play, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team put themselves in great position for upward movement after the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Monday afternoon, carding a +25 to rank sixth after the first day of action.

The Golden Eagles sit just three strokes back of fourth place Morehead State and six back of third place Murray State. Jacksonville State, currently in second place, also remains just within striking distance, 15 shots ahead of the Tech squad with plenty of golf left to be played.

Allison Geer led the Golden Eagles in the OVC's first round of action, carding a 76 to tie for 10th out of the 50 participants. The sophomore collected two birdies over the first seven holes, helping to finish just four over through the first 18.

Arguably Tech's most consistent player this season, Whitney Robertson finished just one shot back of her teammate, wrapping up the first round with a 77. A freshman, Robertson showed some signs of youth, shooting plus four over the ninth, tenth, and eleventh holes. She rebounded nicely, however, showing tenacity by grabbing a birdie on hole No. 12 and shooting par over the final six holes.

Sophomores Maddi Everts and Megan Williamson each wrapped up play on the day with scores of 80. The two tied with two other players in the field for 25th. Freshman Lydia Triplett rounded out the Golden Eagle participants on the day, carding an 84 to finish tied for 36th.

The second round of the tournament will commence at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
