Everts paces Tech; Golden Eagle women ninth at F&M Bank Intercollegiate

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Redshirt freshman Madalyn Everts scored the best round of the day Tuesday for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, earning herself a Top 20 individual finish as the Golden Eagles placed ninth at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at the Clarksville Country Club.

Everts' round of 78 on Tuesday helped her to a 158 total for the 36-hole event, putting her in 16th place. It was the second-best round of the tourney for the Golden Eagles, after freshman Katya Hoffman opened with a 77 on Monday. Adding her 83 Tuesday, Hoffman finished at 160 and tied for 20th place.

Senior Katherine Bell bounced back nicely from a 91 Monday to slice 12 shots off her score and post 79 Tuesday. That gave her a 170 total and left her 49th on the individual leaderboard. One shot back was senior Amanda Randolph, whose 85-86--171 put her in a tie for 50th place. Freshman Megan Williamson shot rounds of 87 and 86 and finished tied for 52nd place with a 173 total.

Tech also had one player competing in the 10-team tournament on an individual basis. Amber Shepherd had Tech's third best overall total, with rounds of 80 and 82 for a 162 total to put her in a tie for 25th place.

Jacksonville State dominated play, putting all five players in the Top 10, including three who tied for fourth place at 151. The Gamecocks finished with a 600 team total to win the title, a full 15 shots better than runnerup Morehead State (615). The MSU Eagles did produce the individual medalist in Marisa Kamelgarn, who shot 75 anad 72 for a 147 total and a one-shot victory.

Southern Illinois (627) was a distant third, followed by Murray State (630), Austin Peay (638), Bemont and Lipscomb (650), SIU Edwardsville (652), Tennessee Tech (655) and IPFW (675).

Tech's next tournament is Middle Tennessee State's Blue Raider Invitational, to be played Monday and Tuesday at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
