NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sophomore Amber Shepherd is tied for second
place after shooting an even-par 72 Monday in the first round of
the Belmont Women's Invitational being held at Old Hickory Country
Club.
The Golden Eagles are in sixth place in the team standings, with
the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.
Host Belmont had four players in the Top 10 and owns a comfortable
lead in the team standings after posting a 304 Monday. That's 13
shots better than UAB and Lipscomb, two teams tied for second at
317. Evansville (318) is fourth, followed by Austin Peay (323),
Tech (330) and Trevecca Nazarene (341).
Individually, Belmont's Jennifer Newman owns a one-shot edge wth a
first-round 71 Monday. Shepherd and Lipscomb's Savannah Schubert
are tied for second at 72, with UAB's Caitlin Watts two shots back
on the leaderboard at 74.
Sophomore Katy Beth Glover is next for Tech, tied for 26th place at
84, while junior Amanda Randolph shot an 86 and is tied for 30th
place. Sophomore Brandy VanEtten is in 36th place with an 88 and
junior Katherine Bell is one shot back and one spot behind in the
standings in 37th place.
