DICKSON, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped
up the 2012 season with a sixth place finish at the Ohio Valley
Conference Championship, closing play Tuesday at the GreyStone Golf
Club in Dickson, Tenn.
Sophomore Brandy VanEtten
was the top finisher on the team, placing 17th overall on the
individual leaderboard. Junior Katherine Bell
gained some ground Tuesday and finished just four shots back in a
tie for 20th place.
VanEtten carded a final round 82 Tuesday, finishing with a 54-hole
total of 239 including a 77 Sunday and an 80 Monday. Bell overcame
a first round 86 to shoot 80 Monday and improve to 77 Tuesday for a
243 total. Bell's five-over finish Tuesday matched VanEtten's
Sunday score as the team's lowest rounds of the tournament.
Sophomore Amber Shepherd
was just one shot back of Bell, tied for 22nd place at 244. Her
rounds were 84, 79 and 81, with her Monday score being one of just
three rounds under 80 for the Golden Eagle.
Junior Amanda Randolph
rounded out Tech's scoring, shooting a final 86 Tuesday to finish
at 253 and claim 31st place. Tech's fifth golfer, sophomore Katy Beth
Glover, withdrew after Sunday's first round due to injury.
Jacksonville State held on to win the team title with a 910 total,
a full 13 stroke better than runerup Morehead State (923). Murray
State (928) was third, followed by Eastern Kentucky (942), Austin
Peay (967), Tennessee Tech (978) and Eastern Illinois (985).
Tennessee State did not figure in the team standings since it only
had three players competing.
Omelia Arrizon of JSU and Marisa Kamelgam of Morehead State tied
for first with identical scores of 222.
