COOKEVILLE – Pat Summitt's legacy in women's basketball and the state of Tennessee is undeniable. From her roots in Clarksville to her college days at UT Martin to becoming one of the most legendary coaches and ambassadors for the sport in her time at the University of Tennessee, her impact has been felt in so many ways even nearly seven years after her passing.

In her honor, the Pat Summitt Foundation was created to help raise money for Alzheimer's research and raise awareness of the disease.

As part of its mission, the "We Back Pat" initiative was created, allowing women's basketball teams to play their part in the Pat Summitt Foundation's goal. Members of the Southeastern Conference held their events this past week, but many more events will be held through the course of the season.

Tennessee Tech will hold its second annual "We Back Pat" contest on Thursday as the Golden Eagles host SIUE. Thursday's game will be held at 3 p.m. at the Hooper Eblen Center.

The Golden Eagles will wear special shooting shirts for the event as they try to raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

The Pat Summitt Foundation, a fun of East Tennessee Foundation, was established by Pat and Tyler Summitt in November 2011. Its mission is to award grants to nonprofit organizations that advance research for treatment and a cure, provide care and support for patients and caregivers, and educate the public about Alzheimer's disease.
