Getting to know: D.J. McFarlane

Every student-athlete has a story, details about themselves and their background that extend beyond just the playing field and athletics.

Throughout the summer, we will take a look at the members of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and get to know more about them, the student-athletes who are representing not just their home communities, but also the University, Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland as they don the purple and gold. We asked the team to provide 10 facts about themselves that they want you, the fans, to know about them.

Today's subject is rising senior D.J. McFarlane. A Beltsville, Md., product from New Hope Academy, she helped her prep squad win the 2019 Geico High School National Championship. McFarlane is a dynamic personality in the Golden Eagle program with her energy and compassion for her teammates. D.J. is entering her fourth season with the Golden Eagle women's basketball team.

Here are 11 things McFarlane wants you to know:

1) I love to eat at Crepe and Cream. I always get the number 1.

2) I have great parents that are always open to hearing me out regardless of how far-fetched my thoughts.

3) I enjoy eating seafood. It's my weakness, as well as eggs.

4) Joy is part of my first name (Dainajoy) because, when I was born, I brought extreme happiness to my father's life.

5) My older brother is my best friend, and I can always count on him.

6) I love giving back to the community as well as interacting with our baby fans.

7) I enjoy switching up my hairstyle because I have different personalities at times.

8) I really wear glasses, but for some reason, I do not like to wear them.

9) I enjoy every moment with my teammates both on and off the court.

10) Being at Tech has truly been a blessing. There are many that wish they were in my position. So, I thank the Lord every day for giving me this opportunity to make my family proud of me.

11) My older brother McDane and I are the first in our family to receive athletic scholarships. McDane played football at Bowie State.
