COOKEVILLE – Through three quarters, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team had the upper hand on visiting Belmont on Saturday night. But in the final 10 minutes, the Bruins caught fire and went on a 15-point scoring run to claim a 58-49 victory over the Golden Eagles.

With the loss, Belmont (13-7, 9-2 Ohio Valley Conference) takes a half-game lead in first place over the Golden Eagles (14-8, 9-3 OVC). Austin Peay (8-3) stands half a game back from Tech, while Murray State (8-4) is a full game back. Eastern Illinois, Tech's next opponent, is 7-4, while Tennessee State (6-6), SIUE (5-6) and UT Martin (4-6) wrap up the current top eight.

Belmont snapped Tech's seven-game winning streak and avenged its loss on January 22 in Nashville.

The fourth quarter proved to be the deciding factor as Belmont outscored Tech 22-5 in the final 10 minutes. The Golden Eagles were 2-for-13 from the field in that span and was 1-for-8 at the free-throw line. It was a stark contrast to the first three quarters where Tech was 15-for-39 and 11-for-11 from the stripe.

Belmont, in the fourth quarter, was 8-for-10 from the field and 5-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Anna Jones ended the game with 12 points, going 3-for-9 from the field with a 3-pointer and 5-for-6 at the free-throw line. Jada Guinn scored 10 points on a 4-for-10 night with a 2-for-4 performance at the free-throw line, while pulling down nine rebounds.

Destinee Wells led Belmont with 27 points, shooting 12-for-23 from the field with two 3-pointers and 1-for-2 from the charity stripe. She also had five assists. Madison Bartley challenged the Golden Eagles inside, posting six blocks, while also scoring 12 points and pulling down six rebounds. Bartley was 4-for-5 from the field and 4-for-7 from the line. Tuti Jones was 3-for-7 from the field, 2-for-6 from long range and 3-for-4 at the stripe.

Tech returns to action on Thursday as the Golden Eagles hit the road to take on Eastern Illinois, then Saturday at SIUE. Tech returns home on Feb. 17 as it hosts Southeast Missouri.
