Tech adds Kiera Downey to finalize 2018 recruiting class

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – @TTUWBB head coach Kim Rosamond has announced that 5'8" standout guard Kiera Downey has been added to the Tennessee Tech women's basketball program. Downey will join the Golden Eagle roster for the 2018-19 season after completing a stellar career at Ravenwood High School.

"Kiera is a versatile guard that can play multiple positions," said Rosamond. "She is a relentless competitor who is extremely unselfish and is a mature leader on and off the floor. She can score in a lot of different ways, and I love the athleticism she will bring to our team. Kiera values winning in all areas of her life, and she competes just as hard in the classroom as she does on the court. Our fans will love everything she brings to the program."

Downey etched her name in the record books this season while becoming Ravenwood High School's all-time leading scorer for both girls and boys as she scored almost 2,000 points for her career. As a senior, she led her team to its first-ever Region 6-AAA Championship and the team's first trip to the TSSAA State Tournament. Ravenwood, coached by Mariska Harris, capped a historic postseason run in the quarterfinals of the state tournament and finished with a record of 22-12.

Individually, Downey was named the Region 6-AAA Tournament Most Valuable Player. She was also selected to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State team, as well as the Tennessean All Mid-State second team. She averaged 15 points, two assists, four rebounds and two steals per game in her Ravenwood career. Downey also played on the summer travel circuit for the highly successful and nationally recognized Tennessee Flight organization.

"I loved the culture and campus," said Downey on her decision to come to Tech. "I felt like I really belonged there."

Downey will join early signees Taylor Lamb and Hannah Garrett to complete the final roster for next season.

Lamb, Garrett and Downey will join a Tech team that returns 73.2 percent of its scoring from the 2017-18 season, including four of its top five scorers (Jordan Brock, 11.3 points per game; MacKenzie Coleman, 10.9 PPG; Kesha Brady, 10.5 PPG; and Akia Harris, 8.6 PPG).

The Golden Eagles also bring back 72.8 percent of their total rebound production from 2017-18, 79.5 percent of their assists, 72.4 percent of their steals and 80.5 percent of their blocks.
