SHAWN MONDAY SMITH

During her Hall of Fame career as point guard from 1986 to 1990, Shawn Monday (second from right in 1989 photo, along with fellow seniors Melinda Clayton, Adrienne Black and Cecilia Ramsey) was one of the most popular players for coach Bill Worrell’s team because of her wizardry with the basketball. In one game at Morehead State, she set an NCAA record with 22 assists. Three times named a team captain, she helped Tech win two OVC regular season titles and three tournament titles while compiling a 91-29 four-year combined record.

Inducted into the TTU Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, Shawn still holds the career record for most assists with 822. She also ranks third all-time in steals with 249.

Shawn was an Upper Cumberland sensation during her high school career at Clarkrange High School, helping to earn three consecutive Class A state championships. As a junior, she was named MVP of the state tourney.
