Golden Eagles head east for weekend's Tennessee Invite

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech outdoor track and field program heads east down I-40 for the 100-mile trek to Knoxville for the Tennessee Invite Friday and Saturday.

Tennessee Invite Information
Apr. 7-8, 2023 – Located at Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn. Friday's action will begin with multi-events at 9:00 a.m. CT, field events at 11 a.m., and runnings events at 4:00 p.m. Saturday's action will begin with multi-events at 9:30 a.m., field events at 11:00 a.m. CT and running events at 11:00 a.m.

What to Watch For
Several Golden Eagles got off to great starts in the outdoor campaign, with a large number setting personal records at the season-opening event in Cleveland, Tenn. 

Helen Pacurariu-Nagy provided a fifth-place showing with PR in the 5,000-meter run, turning in the fastest time in the Ohio Valley Conference this season with a mark of 17:26.60. Rahab Sawe placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in with a season-best time of 11:51.04.

A trio of Golden Eagles locked down PRs in the 400-meter dash, with Amara Nwajagu leading the way. The sophomore won the race with a Lee Invitational record time of 55.42 for her own career-best performance. Finishing fifth in the dash, rookie Malika Coutain erupted for a personal-record time of 58.40. Right on her heels, teammate Kategie Casseus finished sixth with a PR of 58.61.

Veteran Jalena Curbeam leaped to a career-long distance of 5.19 meters (17'0.5") in the long jump. She also placed third in the triple jump, smashing a mark of 11.58 meters (38'0").
