NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track & field team wrapped up action at its first event of the 2022-23 season, ending the Commodore Challenge with another strong run of results at Vanderbilt's Multipurpose Facility in Nashville.
Delivering a pair of top-10 performances were Jalyn Rice and Jalen Curbeam, each kicking off the day with solid showings in the triple jump. A rookie, Rice finished eighth overall in her first triple jump session of the year, delivering a mark of 11.52 meters (37'9.5"). Curbeam placed 10th after leaping 11.42 meters (37'5.75").
Two more Golden Eagles turned in top-10 finishes, this time on the track side of things. Competing in the 400-meter dash, sophomore Amara Nwajagu continued her impressive start to the year, placing third with a personal-best mark of 57.30. Freshman Malika Coutain placed 10th in her first collegiate sprint in the 400, clocking in at 59.30 with her own personal record.
Continuing the top-10 trend for the purple and gold was Nyla Armand, setting a PR in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.47. Joining her with a fantastic performance was Helen Pacurariu-Nagy, who completed 3,000-meter run fifth overall with a time of 10:31.41.
Senior Anya Akili delivered a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles, wrapping up her weekend with a time of 9.28.
