Tech back in action at Black and Gold Invitational Friday and Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field program will compete in its third-straight multi-day meet this weekend, staying in-state for Vanderbilt's Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville.

Apr. 16-17, 2021 – Located at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex in Nashville, Tenn. Friday's action will kick off with field events at 4:00 p.m. CT and running events at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, field events will begin at 10:00 a.m. while the running events are slated to kick off at 12:00 p.m.

What to Watch For
Following nearly two full weeks without competition, the Golden Eagles return to action at Vanderbilt's yearly event held in Nashville. This marks Tech's third-straight multi-day meet after beginning the year with a single-day event in Mobile, Ala.

The purple and gold last competed at the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky. to open the month, with a solid round of results to show for the effort. Sophomore Jalena Curbeam turned in the top performance, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 10.93m.

Freshman Cayla Johnson snagged a top-10 finish with a throw of 25.63m in the javelin and also collected a season-best showing in the high jump, clearing 1.55m. Fellow rookie Katie Long placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 34.36m.

Also tallying a season milestone in the triple jump was freshman Jadae Joseph. The Miami native posted a mark of 10.77m, finishing sixth in the triple jump. Right behind her was fellow rookie Samaria Allen in seventh place. The native of Lithonia, Ga. leaped to a distance of 10.70m for a season-best mark.

Another Tech freshman captured a top-five finish on the day, as Trenia Stephens raced to a fifth-place showing in the 100m. She turned in a time of 12.53 in her first taste of the event at the collegiate level.
