Golden Eagles post strong start to Hilltopper Relays

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A couple of strong performances gave the Tennessee Tech track & field team a good start to the Hilltopper Relays Friday, competing at Charles M. Ruter Track & Field Complex in the two-day event hosted by Western Kentucky.

Leading off the action was a solid start to the high jump with freshman Cayla Johnson advancing to the finals. The rookie cleared 1.55m in her first experience with the high jump in her collegiate career. Johnson also led Tech in the long jump, finishing with a distance of 4.95m.

Turning in the top showing of the day was fellow freshman Kendall Medders. She turned in a collegiate personal best height of 1.60m, placing fifth overall.

Also competing for the Golden Eagles on the day were Anya Akili in the high jump and long jump, Jalena Curbeam in the long jump, Reagan Fossler in the shot put and Keyanna Word in the hammer throw.

Day two action for the Hilltopper Relays is scheduled to kick off Saturday at 9:00 a.m. CT with field events. The running events are slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.
