Golden Eagles off to solid start after day one of Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A handful of Tennessee Tech track & field athletes got the action started for the Golden Eagles at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays Friday at the Mike Sanders Track & Field Complex in Starkville, Miss.

The purple and gold saw a few personal bests among a pair of events in the team's second meet of the season. Competing in the 400m, freshman Trenia Stephens topped her previous top time by more than three full seconds with a mark of 1:00.03.

Fellow rookie Ayanna Haywood, incredibly, tied her own personal-best performance in the 400m. After opening the year with a time of 1:01.37 at the USA Invitational, the Franklin, Tenn. native again recorded the exact same time of 1:01.37 in Starkville.

Rounding out the trio competing in the 400m for the Golden Eagles, sophomore Anya Akili turned in the team's top time of 59.52, earning a top-25 performance. Akili also competed in the high jump for the purple and gold, clearing a career-high 1.47m.

Also taking part in the high jump for Tech was freshman Kendall Medders, who paced her team by clearing 1.52m.

Day two of the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays will kick off with an 11:00 a.m. start for the final field events while the remaining running events are slated to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
