COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's track &
field team scored points in six events Saturday, including a
school-record time in the 4x100 meter relay, and the Golden Eagles
posted their highest finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor
Championships, locking up fifth place with a school-best 67
points.
Eastern Illinois repeated as women's and men's champions in the
meet, which ended without finishing the final two events due to bad
weather conditions. As it was, Saturday's action took place in
bouts of rain and wind, making for difficult conditions.
After piling up 47 points on Friday, Tech added 20 points Saturday
to reach its mark of 67. It placed Tech fifth just one-half point
ahead of Austin Peay.
Following EIU (212 points) in the women's team standings were
Southeast Missouri (155.5), Eastern Kentucky (131), Jacksonville
State (73.5), Tennessee Tech (67), Austin Peay (66.5), Tennessee
State (42.5), Murray State (30) and Morehead State (1).
Seniors Stephanie Place
(pictured) and Ashley Evans
accounted for 11 points Saturday in the 5,000-meter run. Place took
second in the time of 17:42.53 while Evans finished sixth in
18:12.15.
Another senior, Rachel Forbes,
earned three points with a sixth place effort in the javelin with a
final toss of 109 feet, 1 inch.
Meagan Lyons and Ashley Mayhew each added a point Saturday to what each had scored Friday. Lyons placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.05 seconds) and Mayhew was eighth in the hammer throw (133 feet, 11 inches).
The only school record broken over the weekend came in the 4x100
relay, which placed seventh for two points. The foursome of Lyons,
Justine
Phillips, Ofey Eguzo and Allison Price
circled the track in 48.38 seconds to eclipse the previous mark of
48.80.
The 4x400 relay team of Price, Carter, Lynn and Danielle Catlett
narrowly missed the school mark, finishing seventh in the time of
3:59.67.
Place wound up accounting for 18 points to lead the Golden
Eagles in the final meet of her record-setting career. Senior
Katherine Lynn was next, scoring 10 points when she was crowned the
OVC high jump champ. Following that pair was Evans, who notched
