NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two more school records tumbled and
eight personal best marks were beaten as the Tennessee Tech
women’s track and field team earned eight more points on the
final day of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
The meet was held at the Gentry Center at Tennessee State
University.
Eastern Illinois scored 142 points to win the team championship by
a comfortable margin. Eastern Kentucky, which entered the final day
tied for third place with Tech, climbed to second with 128 points.
The Lady Colonels scored 102 points Saturday
Southeast Missouri finished third with 93 points, followed by
Austin Peay (72), Murray State (57), Jacksonville State (54),
Tennessee State (42) and Tech (36).
Senior Meagan Lyons broke her own school record in the 55-meter
hurdles, finishing in 8.32 seconds to place seventh and earn two
team points.
The other school standard fell in the 4x400 relay. Tech’s
foursome of Allison Price, Emily Weinzetl, Danielle Catlett and
Leayn Carter toured the circuit in 4:02.89, eclipsing the previous
record by nearly seven seconds. That time earned an eighth place
finish and one team point in the standings.
Junior Ashley Mayhew added four points to Tech’s total with a
fifth place showing in the weight throw. She had a toss of 50-feet,
4.5 inches. Freshman Lacy Yslas had a personal best in the same
event at 39-feet, 7.25 inches while Rebecca Forbes had an effort of
31-feet, one inch.
All five of Tech’s times in the mile and 3,000-meter run were
personal best marks.
In the mile run, Traci Jones placed eighth and earned a point with
a time of 5:24.56. Amanda Simmons’ PR was 5:32.87 while
Kathryn Forbes covered the distance in 5:50.75.
Seniors Tiffany Palmer and Ashley Evans had career-best times in
the 3,000-meter run. Palmer finished in 10:42.94 while Evans was
just behind in 10:48.07.
Freshman Katie Lowery just missed her own school record in the pole
vault, clearing the bar at 9-feet, 6-inches. Rachel Forbes had a
vault of 9-feet.
In the triple jump, Leayn Carter was Tech’s top finisher with
a leap of 34-feet, 6.25 inches. Krysten Joshen had a jump of
33-feet, one-inch.
