COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will add a little bit of Upper Cumberland talent to its roster as the team announced the addition of Abby Shoulders after transferring from Middle Tennessee.

"I am excited to welcome Abby Shoulders to the Golden Eagle softball team," Tech head coach Danielle Penner said. "In addition to being a quality young woman on-and-off the field, she is a true utility capable of making an immediate impact."

A highly-decorated student-athlete from nearby Lafayette, Shoulders lettered in three sports at Macon County High School, playing four years of softball as a shortstop for coach John Conditt, four years of basketball for hall of fame coach Larry White as a guard and a season as a forward in soccer for coach Liz Spragens.

At MCHS, she earned Class AA Miss Softball honors by the Tennessee Softball Coaches Association and was on its All-State squad. She won District 8-AA Freshman MVP, Defensive MVP and Offensive MVP during her career.

Her senior numbers at MCHS were phenomenal as she posted a .558 batting average with 47 RBI, 10 home runs and 65 runs scored.

During her senior season on the hardwood, she helped lead Macon County to the TSSAA Class AA girls basketball championship in 2021 after a runner-up finish in 2018 and state Final Four appearances in 2019 and 2020. She scored over 1,200 career points and was a four-time selection to both the District 8-AA team and the Region 4-AA team.

Shoulders has also been an exceptional student, earning MCHS' co-valedictorian honors in 2021.

The collegiate experience also runs in her family. Her sister, Allyson, played four seasons of softball at Cumberland, while her father, Chad, played baseball for two years at Aquinas Junior College.

She appeared in 36 games last season for the Blue Raiders, starting 27. Shoulders drove in seven RBI and scored 12 runs as she also drew 10 walks. She also had success on the base paths, stealing five of seven attempts.
