Tech softball falls to UAB, Murray State at Trojan Classic

TROY, Ala. – It was a tough day offensively for the Tennessee Tech softball team on Saturday in the second day of the Trojan Classic. The Golden Eagles were held to just three hits against OVC foe Murray State, after getting held to a single run to UAB on eight hits.

Tech (2-11) fell 8-1 to the Blazers in the day's opening contest, then dropped a 21-0 decision to the Racers in the later action.

Against UAB, Sydney Love-Baker picked up the Golden Eagles' lone RBI of the day, driving in Hallie Davis in the fifth inning. Love-Baker went 2-for-3, while Callen Griffin, Davis and Alyssa Herlocker also picked up hits in the game.

Taylor Waldrop went 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits as she walked and struck out three. Kayla Hughes worked an inning and two thirds, yielding a run on two hits.

UAB's Bailie Barnes worked the complete seven, allowing on run on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Analyse Petree, Rachel Rogers and Madison Millsaps each picked up two RBI to lead the Blazers.

Against the Racers, Haven Campbell held Tech to three hits in four frames, striking out one, then Amber Van Duyse closed the door with a hitless frame.

Leigh Ellen Thomas was tagged for 16 runs – nine earned – on nine hits and eight walks over three innings of work. Hughes worked one frame, allowing five runs – three earned – on three hits.

Beth McCulley, Taylor Thomas and Ashley McGowan tallied the three safeties for the Golden Eagles.

Sierra Gilmore and Lexi Jones each had four RBI for the Racers, while Brenna Finck, Jensen Striegel and Logan Braundmeier had two each.

Tech (2-11) returns to action for its final game in the Trojan Classic against host Troy on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., weather permitting.
